There is no end to my amusement raising these intelligent, curious, adorable critters.
After a particularly frustrating day harvesting last week, I called it quits relatively early. In an effort to raise my spirits, I went to visit the pigs. It was evening, so they were enjoying the relative cool of the shaded paddock. I had such a great time watching them run around and started playing with the slow-mo settings on my phone and came up with this gem.
The video quality might not be a gift from the heavens, but watch their floppy ears as they gallop around the paddock. To quote a favorite book of The Toddler's: "Just look at those ears, so floppy and fine. You have to admit, we're fabulous swine!"
The striking thought, for me, was how all this exercise was affecting the final product of the meat. Great exercise creates great muscles (am I right, gym rats?), which in my business, creates delicious meat. This is, of course, along with a host of other factors such as, breed, what the animal is fed, etc. But just try to watch this video and not think that this has to be a better way for them than living indoors without access to run around with your friends.
